The gallery's collections include more than 1800 works, of which some 400 are focused on the Tatras. 19th and 20th century artists of the Spis region are particularly well-represented. 20th century art from all of Slovakia, especially from eastern Slovakia, is also richly featured. Expansion of the gallery's specialised activities is at present driving an increase in acquisition, mainly focused on photography.

Gallery collections are not presented as a permanent exposition, as there is not appropriate exhibition space for the whole collection. Instead, short-term, thematic exhibitions are presented to the public.
