Tatra Nature Exposition

The Tatra Nature Exposition is a unique botanical garden, collecting more than 100 species of plant life found in these mountains. It gives visitors a safe view of rare alpine and subalpine species, and offers enthusiasts the chance to purchase seeds and potted samples as permanent, living souveniers of their visit.

Botanical gardens specializing in the flora of the Tatras date back at least to 1880, with public efforts in this branch initiating in the mid-20th century. These efforts led to the establishment in recent years of the Tatra Nature Exposition.

The Exposition is designed to reflect natural forms found in the mountains, with miniature hills and valleys, and grassy as well as marshy areas. Granite, limestone and peat, the building blocks of the mountains themselves, form the basis of the planting areas. Herbs and other plants of the Tatras with curative qualities are displayed in a special section.

The three hectares of the gardens, located in Tatranska Lomnica at an elevation of 850 m a.s.l., are open daily throughout the summer, with limited hours in the spring and fall.
