Detachable-cabin cableway
History
This cableway, the youngest in the Tatras, was first conceived of
in connection with the Tatras' hosting of the World Championships
in Skiing in 1970. The relatively limited total capacity of the
large-cabin cableway to Skalnate Pleso led
planners to initiate work in the late 1960s on a second transport system between
Tatranska Lomnica and Skalnate Pleso.
The original continous two-cable system (as opposed to the single cable system
used today), delivered by the Transporta Chrudim company, started
test runs between 12 and 16 March 1973, and was
opened for operation on 15 June 1976. This particular technology
was completely liquidated in 1993, and at the same time replaced
with new equipment from the Girak company.
Present
The new detachable-cabin cableway began operation on the original
Tatranska Lomnica-Start-Skalnate Pleso line on 4 August 1995. With
an hourly capacity of 900 passengers, we can cover even the peak
periods of travel to Skalnate Pleso.
Technical specifications.
The advantage of this cableway, with its detachable cabins, is that
it runs continuously.
Stations offer WCs, shops, refreshments, exchange services and
accommodations and restaurants.
