Strbske Pleso Spas
At an altitude of 1351 m above sea level, these spas are the highest in Slovakia. The altitude and clean air with its preponderance of light negative ions, help to shape this centre's atmosphere. Therapy here dates from 1877. Strbske Pleso founder Jozef Szentivanyi then started, in existing lodging facilities, the first balneo-therapeutic procedures (hot and pines baths).
The Tatras' atnosphere today is decidedly continental, with alpine overtones.
The sunny weather - averaging over 2000 hours per year - also contributes to the important
bio-climatic factor of the spas.
Strbske Pleso's temperatures average around 3.2 Flora is typical of mountain pine forest. At this altitude, therapeutic effects like those of sanitoriums in the Alps can be achieved. Over time, the emphasis of these spas developed into treatment of chronic, non-specific respiratory disorders of children as well as adults. Treatment methodsTreatment is built around climatotherapy, wherein patients simply lodge in a clean-air setting, rounding out their programmes with therapy.
