This is a medieval Spis town founded in 1263. The town square is dominated by the splendid architecture of the church of St Anton, built in the 19th century on the site of the former roman style church which dated from 1264. Approximately 200m from the church there is the J.M.Petzval Museum dedicated to this famous scientist and inventor of high intensity photography. The museum contains a collection of cameras and old photographic equipment.
